Wordpess

Wordpress popularity has risen for the last few years as it is quite simple to theme and it provides a perfect solution for small scale websites for portfolio, blogs, static informational sites, etc.

It is another opensource CMS like program which are widely supported by the opensource community. As long as you have Linux hosting, database access, and ftp access, installing and running wordpress is pretty straight forward process. Unlike other Drupal or Joomla, it is really simple to configure and learning curve is pretty low.

Plugins are readily available to extends Wordpress core functions and it is quite easy to implement. Like other CMS, it provides the standard taxonomy terms, and clean url  functionality which make categorisation easy and SEO friendly.

One thing about Wordpress that I don't particularly fond of is the way the html template itself is split into few files. It is counter intuitive when you are debugging or developing the site. This also becomes a limitation of design and structure.

There are quite a few brilliant sites built on Wordpress because its simplicity and ease of use. One of the most respected design blog is: Web Designer Wall
